Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham University senior Melissa Salerno (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) was named the 2007 women's cross country most valuable player as well as the 2007-08 women's indoor track and field most valuable player it was announced at the 74th annual Block F Awards Dinner at the Villa Barone Manor on April 30th.
In cross country, Salerno posted four top 15 finishes, including a third place showing at the St. John's Fall Festival and a team-best fourth place showing at the Leeber Invitational. Her top cross country time of 19:26 at the ECAC Championship, where she finished 29th overall, was the second fastest cross country time at Fordham in 2007.
Indoor, Salerno earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors by placing second in the 1000m at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship. Her time of 2:53.19 was a season-best for the Rams and qualified her for the ECAC Championships where she placed seventh.
Salerno also recorded Fordham's fastest 800m (2:15.88) and mile (4:55.79) indoor times in 2007-08.
In relays, Salerno was a member of the 4x800 team which placed sixth at the Atlantic 10 Championships in a time 9:28.71. The 4x800 also competed at the ECAC Championships where it finished eight in a season-best time of 9:12.02.
